What Should We Protect in Autonomous Mobility? | Cybersecurity Requirements for Level 4 Automated Driving

Automotive Cybersecurity Pavilion Seminar

Mobility services powered by robotaxis and driverless buses (Autonomous Mobility as a Service, or Autonomous MaaS) are increasingly becoming a reality both in Japan and around the world. Operators seeking Level 4 automated driving approval for these services must address cybersecurity challenges that go beyond those associated with conventional vehicles.

This session will provide an overview of recent trends in driverless mobility and the underlying technologies, highlighting the differences in cybersecurity requirements between autonomous and conventional vehicles. It will also examine the responsibilities associated with additional onboard systems and vehicle modifications, as well as operational security considerations related to fleet management, remote monitoring, and emergency response.

Furthermore, the session will explore practical challenges faced by autonomous mobility service providers, including cybersecurity considerations for AI-based driving systems and approaches to security log monitoring. Beyond regulatory compliance, the presentation will highlight often-overlooked security risks and discuss practical and effective cybersecurity strategies for the safe and secure deployment of autonomous mobility services.
